Resourcing - Challenge to Overcome

Posted by kumaran on September 12, 2006

Believe me the biggest challenge that IT industry needs to overcome is the resourcing. Let it be Big or small startup the problem is the same . Today the demand is high but do we have enough resources to meet the demand. Answer might be yes but if we ask do you have quality resources Answer is no. Quite a few days I have been going through various resumes and believe me I have not seen a single resume which has impressed me looking at it first time and People do not realize the resume’s importance and create them for sake of it.

Where is the Quality going? Is it getting diluted because of the demand we have in the industry? Are the companies compromising with the quality they get  to meet their demands?

We are going through this challenge to find quality resources and we have decided not to compromise on quality at any cost. We are spending our time on weekend’s and evenings to do interviews and we are sure our nets will catch the right fish that we are looking at.

Be prepared for fudged up numbers, spelling mistakes and incorrect grammar just to name a few. The worst part will turn out to be the interviews were you are left wondering how this particular person was ever hired anywhere in the first place.

    Hi,

Some how i visited your blog, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a Btech(IT), from a ok-ok kind of college, with a little less %age but with gr8 passion and good knowlege of security/linux/.NET. I know companies have problem getting right person in. But i think the reason for that is because most companies look for experience and thats how most companies rate people. Most things that rate one’s market value are Exp., %age, College etc. I understand that this is the best way to get 8 out of 10 right people. But if some company want to grow, what they need to look for is techie people, people with passion, people with big dreams, people who just are mad for technology. These kind of people can always learn and at much faster rate than anyone can think off. I know a lot of people who are good in security, system prog, etc but some of them are not BE or some are working as QA or etc and have experience in that feild so no company want to consider them. Sometime i dont understand why comanies dont want to take risk on these things. Anyway i hope my comments have not disturbed you in anyway, its just my view. I am sorry if i have said something unreasonable.

I really feel with so many engineers passing out every year it is very difficult to identify the right talent.Leaving that aside, among the experienced lot as well, there are people who have the knowledge but they lack the right attitude due to which the problem arise.

This makes me remember what Azim Premji once told to Economic Times “India has lot of technical architects but less no of domain specialists” —> This is where India has to gear up
